Thanks to "La Gazette" you will improve your listening/speaking skills, your vocabulary, grammar and spelling.

  • Every month you receive an issue by e-mail. The lesson consists of a text and a conversation recorded at regular and slow speed, full transcript, translation into English, exercises and games with answer keys to develop your listening skills, vocabulary, pronunciation, spelling and grammar. You may download the lesson to study off-line.

In each issue there are:

  • Recordings at slow and regular speed of a short text and a real-life conversation between two or three people, their full transcript and  translation, in addition to games and exercises.
  • An off-line version to download if you wish to listen to the recordings and do the activities off-line.
  • Activities (one or two hours of study, depending on your level in French):
    • Listen to the recording, choosing between slow and regular speed. Play and pause to repeat after the speakers to improve your pronunciation.

    • Do the first listening comprehension exercise ("Mais qu'est-ce qu'ils disent ?" = What are they talking about?)
    • Study new vocabulary with the transcript and the translation where the vocabulary is highlighted. The transcript reproduces exactly what the speakers say in real-life spoken French. Spoken French is different from written French (and is hardly taught in most textbooks).
Studying spoken French will greatly improve your listening comprehension skills.
The equivalent in written or formal French is given.
    • To improve your listening comprehension, as well as your spelling and grammar, do a gap fill exercise.
    •  Each "Gazette" offers a grammar review and a grammar exercise.
